Not playing MMO’s…. Feels pretty good.

I haven’t touched an MMO in about a month and it feels pretty good.

When i would play Eq2 i would get frustrated a lot. The frustration was from a lack of things to do. At level 80 i had finished off all the high end solo content. I would spend my time looking for a group while killing solo mobs… Which get annoying pretty quick when there is no point in killing them.

People would tell me to go level an alt, or tradeskill. Which i tried. Tradeskill in EQ2 is not fun. You push 3 button ever 4 second, over and over and over again. That not fun.

Leveling an alt through the same content i’ve gone though 1/2 a dozen time is better than tradeskilling. But i rather be grouping on my main. I would probably enjoy leveling my alt if i could be looking for group on my main at the same time. But SoE doesn’t seem to see that as something they should add to the game.

So no matter what i did in EQ2 after about an hour i would either end up frustrated because i couldn’t get a group, the group sucked, or level an alt getting annoying over time.

Now i don’t get that feel. Since Dragon Age isn’t an MMO i can quit when ever i want. Team Fortress 2 is similar i can log in an out when ever i want and have fun. With out the suck. The suck is bad…

Your post could be describing me. I have not touched EQ2 in over a month and it was the only MMO I was playing, though about two months ago I was trying LOTRO. Since Dragon Age has come out, I haven’t cared about online play at all. I love how I can get immersed into a story and make decisions that will change the world. I don’t miss LFG and constant shard farming. This is the first time that I’ve had no intention in buying the EQ2 expansion, I just have no interest in it. I’ve even been playing some Sims 3 and COD: MW2 lately since I can just quite when I want.

  • I actually just canceled my EQ2 sub last night. My wife and I were going over our budget looking for things to cut, and… I think I’ve logged in to EQ2 maybe 4 times in the last 3 months.

Come February and the next expansion I’ll see about re-upping. Until then…. mostly I’m just reading and watching tv with my wife anymore. I may even cancel my high speed internet connection. Don’t seem to have a need for it at home right now.

  • I agree that sometimes its nice not to play MMORPGs… I feel like a slave to them sometimes.
