Leveling a healer, not so fun

Well my guild really really needs a sheman (Defiler, or mystic). So since i am on break until Jan 23 i have decided to level one as quickly as possible.

In 2 days i was able to get to level 30. The first night i got to level 19 doing most of the quest in Timorous Deep. Which was pretty fun if you haven’t done it. The rewards are pretty much on level with mid 30′s rewards you get in the old world.

Yesterday i got to level 30. I bought about 10 RoK collection quest and that was worth about 7 level worth of xp. And i did about 3 level worth of quests.

What i noticed is that i rarly ever died as a healer, which is very nice. But it take so long to kill a mob that leveling feel extremely slow compared to other classes that i have played. My goal is still to get to level 70 as fast as possible so that my guild will have some sort of a defiler for raids.

I have been playing an alt Dwarven Mystic since his creation on Dec 5th 2007.
It was nice to go see all those areas that had become distant memories, like the Forest Ruins and Oakmyst Forest.

I have not done the level gain through collection Xp thing, not because I wouldn’t have liked to – but because prices of the one rare find are high here on Befallen.

One nice thing I have found whilst playing the Mystic is that so far the spell upgrades have been really cheap. Not sure if this is simply due to the lack of players in general in the lower tiers, or simply because there is not much Mystic love out there.

One bad thing I have found is that crafted Chain Armor has been in short supply and expensive. Often in areas like hands, head, and feet – I have been wearing leather gear.

As a long time player of EQ2 I did have all the Veteran reward increased XP gain potions – which helped during grinding sessions. And even though there had been times I began to think ‘Why the hell did I not pick the Fury class?’ On Dec. 31st I hit level 50.
Oh – and not to forget, we did also have those 2 holiday season 20% XP gain boost weekends that helped too.

  • After getting three healers to 70, and two to 80, I can say that no, they’re not fun. They’re great at what they do, but they’re slow. Very. Very. Slow. Especially trying to solo the RoK quests. Do-able, easily, but they take forever.

mytics are by far the easiest quickest and best soloers in the game from 1 to 80.. If you have their AA’s set right anyhow.

The way of the Defiler is a slow march … It wasn’t until I started playing Fury, Warlock and Zerker alts that I realised it was possible to do solo kills in under a minute per mob!

Shamans really come into their own in tougher group and raid encounters though. They’re a lot of fun and pretty essential for successful raids. Keep at it OB!
