First off read Cuppy’s review, it much more detailed than what i am going to write.
I was attualy surpised at how fun Free Relems was, but you have to get out of the hardcore MMO mind set for it to be fun.
I was actually suspired at how fun Free Realms was. It definitely a casual game geared to a younger audience. that you do not have to invest hours in to it. You can log in and find something to do in seconds. Which i find to be very important to me. I honestly am tired of MMO’s that require you to group.
So to steal Cuppy’s titles.
The Good:
Fast Download. It takes 2-4 minutes to download the charter creation page, and while your making your charter it download the tutorial, and when your done making your character your in the tutorial. I didn’t have to wait, which is great. Once your done with the tutorial your you go straight in the main game with out having to wait either.
The Game UI is pretty good, and it didn’t take me to long to figure out how to do everything. You even have slots for armor/items for every job you have and they made that very simple which is great).
The Jobs. There are the classes i believe there are a total of 13, and you can be all of them. There each different and really fun. (I have huge post on this for tomorrow). A brawler fight mobs kind like a traditional MMO. A chef make food (in mini games that are pretty fun). Kart Driver — this is like mario Kart which is pretty fun you can race the AI or other people. Pet Trainer you rent/buy a pet and take care of it (food, clean, teach it trick, thing to ware). Postman, you deliver mail (kind of like timed races. Card trainer — it
It really Polished. I in to 1, bug my entire time in beta, so far in WoW i’ve ran in to 3 or 4 bug and i’m in old world (3 year old content). So polished wise this is really great.
The Bad.
Limited customization. There like 5-6 choices for anything you can customize, and there is only 6 or 7 thing that you can change, so there is a pretty good probability that you’ll end up looking like someone else (at least to start with, later in the game there tons of different items you can wear).
The Tutorial (at least when i went through) forced you to go through it. When a pop up and the voice told you what to do you couldn’t move, or look around your frozen there as the voice talks to you (It short) but it annoyed me. Specially since those windows have large X on them that i wanted to click and close and get on with the tutorial.
Music — Every single race or derby i’ve been in has the same. ‘It’s Your World’ song, which was really great the first 5 race…. 40 race later with the same music no matter where i race… it a little annoying.
The Terrible.
No Mac Support — This is an epic fail. If Free Realms had mac support i’d be playing it more often, but since it does not, i’m not. And with Mac now account for 10% of the market, i think its a real big blow for Sony.
Overall
Its is a really great fun polished game. It not WoW, or Eq2, it is aimed at a younger more casiaul audiance, but still fun for older more mature gamers.
