So Tipa asked a very good question a few days ago. @Ogrebears Are you back in EQ2 then? . I actually thought a long time about this. And i don’t think i am ever coming back to Everquest 2. I love the game, so far it is the best MMO i’ve played in my life, and i recommend it to anyone. But i hate waiting around for a group. And by the time The Shadow Odysseys came it felt like the majority of my time in the game was waiting for groups, and that killed the fun.
I think there are some easy solutions SoE can do to solve this problem.
- Allow people to be LFG on all there characters. I honestly don’t care if I’m grouping in a level 20 dungeon or a level 80 dungeon at the end of the day i rather be grouping, socializing and having fun, than mindlessly killing solo mobs. And this is a change really does not take that much work, so i don’t understand why SoE would not have implemented it.
- Merge the servers in to like 6 servers. Hell if i was running the company i would merger them in to one huge super server, 200,000 people all together. The Majority of the game is instances any way, (Even the over land zones are instanced after 100ish people zone in to them). OK so maybe this isn’t as easy and there would be some technical problems to overcome, but it would be easier to find a group and the server would not feel dead.
I want an MMO that like a FPS game. I like how in TF2 all i have to do is find a server log in and i am in a ‘group’ and having fun, and when i can leave when ever i want, be what ever class i want. I don’t want to grind to get to the good stuff. I don’t want to look for a group. I want instance gratification, no foreplay for Ogrebear, i want to get straight to the juicy hardcore fun!!
You want to develop a WoW killer. Then you need to make an MMO that plays like a FPS game, that has the depth of an MMO, that has no wait time. That is fun in short and long dose. That people can log in and grouped with out looking for a group. Is this possible i don’t know. But i believe this is the mythic WoW killer people are looking for.

Why do I always see people having trouble finding groups? I see it on a lot of websites and I never understood.
I have to turn down groups a lot because I need to solo quests for AA. Its a rare event that I am on for 10 mins and not be asked to join a group. Where are your guild members? I can’t speak for your server as a whole since I have never been on it, but if your part of a medium size active guild I don’t know why you are having issues.
In my experience, I don’t use the LFG tool because the last few times I did I couldn’t find any DPS that could parse over 300. It was sad.
I’ve been a reader of your page for a while and for the 1st time I disagree with you here that Sony needs to do something. I’m actually praying they don’t raise the level cap this expansion, I still have so much to do and get before all my gear becomes worthless. Come transfer servers and join my guild. A lot of us won’t group with “outsiders”
I actually found the grouping in EQ2 to be quite easy but then I played on a PvP server and everyone *had* to group to stand a chance outside of the cities. Grouping in EQ2 is certainly way way better than in WoW though.
Besides WoW and GW, EQ2 was another game that was easy to find groups in (last I remember…been almost a year since I left)…so, I am confused over that statement.
And what you ask for, in regards to LFG, is not possible in any game right now. What other MMO offers offline LFG? Either that or I do not understand your sentence. You make it sound like you want players to be able to find groups with any character they have, and this is not possible.
Anyways, what is funny is out of the games I mention, I would NOT want to go back to WoW, but EQ2 (and since GW is free, I go back there) would be a choice for me.
Cheers
Sounds like you want Huxley.
I never have issues finding groups its not that hard.
Or WAR. You can’t look for a group on offline characters, as Openedge said, nobody does that.
You can log in and find out where in the world fighting is going on, join an Open Group in that area, and get to the fun.
You can log in at Rank 1 and have as much fun as at Rank 40. You don’t have to grind for “the good stuff.”
But maybe I’m seeing it with rose colored glasses as it’s my current MMO of choice, who knows.
You might want to take a look at Dragonica. I don’t think it is really group oriented but it is definitely MMO meets FPS and the PvP is apparently amazing. They are doing an open stress test next weekend.
one super server…like to see ppl try to level solo lol
I use to have that issue in WoW, but now I’ve been become a little more aggressive about finding a group. I’ll use the LFG interface and I’ll post in the LFG channel. If I see someone looking for a DPS, I’ll start messaging them to let them know, I’m available.
I’ve discovered that it also has a lot to do with what class you play. Speaking only in terms of WoW, tanks and healers never have issue getting groups. There are so many DPS classes that they get picked over, if the tank is plate wearer then it makes sense to have dsp that isn’t in plate, or if you have a druid tanking, no need to pick up a Boomkin to rain the pain, when a warlock won’t compete with gear. But that being said, since I’ve been come more involved in finding groups, I get in them all the time.
They won’t come asking you, you have to barge in and make them take you, in a matter of speaking. If you do a few successful dungeons then add people to your friends list so you have people you can ask if you want to start a group rather than joining one.
IMO EQ2 is broke and flawed in so many ways compared to WOW. I can’t play it. WOW has so many things right that after you play both, going back to EQ2 is hard to do.
EQ2 blows..plain and simple and the subscription numbers prove it.
For me… I played EQ2 for a few months but got so distracted and really annoyed by the “The world stops for a moment as pulls another mythical from her/jos ass” world wide spam messages.
On my server someone was getting a mythical like every 15 minutes. That broke the game, broke the emersion, made it so the idea of a mythical is meaningless. I mean whats mythical about an item every single player on the server can get? That in and of it self for me broke the game beyond repair.
